ASIC works to efficiently integrate the unique and complementary expertise of three member universities with the research goals and operational requirements of its industry and government partners. Current member universities include Duke University (Duke, Southeast) as the lead, University of Notre Dame (ND, Middle West), and Syracuse University (SU, Northeast). The Duke site consists of 7 formal faculty members hailing from departments such as ECE, CS and MEMS. The ND site consists of an additional 7 faculty members hailing from CSE, EE and ACMS. Finally, the SU site consists of 7 faculty members from EECS, SIS and the Department of Phychology. The expertise of our faculty teams covers the full spectrum of alternative computing over hardware design, software development, algorithmic optimizations, and application discovery.

 


 

Organizational Structure and Policies

The organizational structure of the ASIC center is depicted above. The ASIC center leadership team consists of directors and co-directors of each site. The industrial advisory board (IAB) consists of a board of directors with one voting representative from each sponsor organization. University policy committee consists of supporting staff members for industrial relationship liaisons, technology transfer and patents, center policies, etc.

The center policies and guidelines are based on the suggestions in in Chapter 3 of the Purple Book, and have been carefully discussed among the three participating sites and documented in both hard and electronic copies stored online. In collaboration with all stakeholders of the center, we have developed formal center bylaws, detailed policies and guidelines for key activities and functions (including membership fees and payment schedule), estanblished an industrial advisory board, anticipated publication and intellectual property issues, and investigated licensing opportunities and other technology transfer logistics. The manual of the defined center policies and guidelines will be prepared for publically access based on the routines of the participating universities. All relevant information and the amendments are extensively documented, and will be circulated among all stakeholders regularly and stored on a dedicated file sharing service. Project outcomes are also regularly discussed and updated as we move ahead.
